These medium-sized dogs are powerfully constructed and square in shape. Their most distinctive feature is their double coats, which are abundant and harsh and tend to form loose matts or strands from the top of their bodies downwards. The coats can be greasy to the touch. The front section of the coat is composed of rough, wiry hair, whilst the back portion is more of a woolly consistency.

Strikingly aristocratic, Berners are one of the most attractive of the Swiss working dogs with their gleaming black coats and illustrious markings. Their coats are soft and silky with a thick under-lay. They are strong, sturdy dogs with tremendous bone and power of the shoulders and long balanced strides. They reach their full adult height at about 15 months but can take another 2 or 3 years to reach full maturity.

Well-balanced dogs with smart appearances, Bichons are small, solid dogs. Their jet black eyes and noses contrast against their snow-white coats and their tails are like plumes which are curved and carried over their backs. Their silken coats which consist of spirally formed hair give them the appearance of powder puffs. Their bouncy stride gives them a happy, carefree presence.

Easily recognisable because of their noble, wrinkly heads, droopy lower eyelids and long pendulous ears, Bloodhounds have powerful bodies and limbs which make them truly big dogs! They have short, smooth coats and move with free, elastic strides. Their voices are full, musical and sonorous.

The Bolognese is a well muscled little dog, it is white in appearance with a long coat covering the entire head and body. The ears are set quite wide apart giving it a square appearance. They resemble the Bichon Frise but is more square and finer in bone.
